AFT Mission Statement

The American Federation of Teachers is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. UAPUWL Origins

We are a group of faculty members (both tenure-track and instructional academic staff) at UW-La Crosse. Our local chapter originated in the wake of Act 10 (2011) and today continues to organize higher education professionals to address current issues in our workplace.

Recent Accomplishments

  • The Future of the UW System, 2022: UAPUWL hosted a presentation and dialogue with Dr. Jon Shelton, Chair of Democracy and Justice Studies at UW-Green Bay. He discussed recent legislative proposals that affect the UW System and that could impact academic freedom
